Warsaw, Poland

A few days in Warsaw!
From August 6th-9th we traveled to Warsaw, Poland. Chad had work and Will and I tagged along. We found the weather to be beautiful and the sky blue which made what brochures and the internet refer to as "the Ugliest City in Europe" not really that ugly. We stayed near the city center which has many new high rise buildings and new construction. Poland is rebuilding after years of communism, but they are rebuilding!

Friday, Will and I walked around the center near the hotel. We visited a mall and several shops with lots of Polish dolls, china, and toys. We also tried to find a park for Will to play, but it didn't happen. :( We found several play areas with kids, but all were fenced in and attached to schools. I did buy a small wooden dog for Will to pull around the hotel and he did several laps in the hallway waiting for dad to get back from work.

Saturday we spent time in the "Old Town." Most of Warsaw was completely destroyed during WW2 and the city spent a lot of money rebuilding this historic part of the city. You can tell that it was rebuilt to look identical to how it was prior to the war. On a sunny day you could see a lot of musicians and people sketching and painting on the streets in this area.

We basically spent the day walking the streets and visiting some sights on the maps. We didn't take a tour, but the guidebook from the hotel was helpful giving us information about what we were seeing.

Will's new favorite ride when we travel.
We enjoyed our time in Warsaw and it was funny how often we were told by people that they are a "poor country." It was also different hearing Polish being spoken in the streets rather than German, English, or French. You can tell the Russian/Soviet influence on the culture and language.
