Beautiful Prague!

July 7th-12th, 2010
Prague Castle

We had a wonderful holiday in Prague last week. Chad had work and Will, Jack and I were able to spend some extra time wondering around this beautiful city.  The weather was in the mid to upper 30s and so we were warm, but there wasn't a cloud in the blue blue sky when we were there.  I would have to say that it is one of my favorite places we have visited so far.  Thank goodness Sydney Bristow went there so often that I wanted to make sure we made the trip. :)

My Travel Boys
Again, Will and Jack were the best little travelers ever!  I am waiting for Will to throw a fit on a flight, he is entitled to do this at least once. He is very predictable on the flights and now enjoys having his own seat.  After we board the plane, Will knows to buckle his seat belt and then points to where "Mom" and "Dad" should sit.  Then he gets his "Bob the Builder" neck pillow and gets settled into a comfortable position.  He fell asleep on both flights during take off and we had to wake him up when we reached the gate.  MONEY!

Jack didn't sleep on the first flight, but was very happy!  He's learning and soon will be a pro.  On the return flight a woman ahead of us asked us how we did it as we had a relaxing, calm flight with two sleeping boys and she had an energetic, bouncing little girl. :)
In the Garden at the best Pizza Restaurant!
Good Food
The first evening after we arrived in Prague we ate at some random Pizzeria that was through a building in a large courtyard area.  I must say it was the most inexpensive meal we had in Prague and possibly the BEST pizza I have ever had (it was the garlic sauce that was on it).  The food was quite good on our trip and we had a lot of Italian.  Chad also tried some traditional Czech food one evening and had beef stew and potato pancakes.  Another evening we ate in the basement of pasta restaurant. It was cool (as most places didn't have air conditioning) and the dinner was wonderful. Being in the basement (and it was several flights of steps down) meant we had to carry our double pusher down too. Oh the  memories from this trip.  It was worth it and the pusher is much lighter when Will gets out.
The Famous Astronomical Clock
English:  Americans and Brits
It was almost like we were in the US at times because we heard so much English.  Prague is a beautiful, historic place that has a small enough city center that most of the major sites are within walking distance.  There were a lot of walking tours and it seemed like we were in the US on the streets.  There were lots of older, retired people who came up to Will and Jack and told us how cute they both were. We also got the comments on their really blue eyes.  Jack was exceptionally smiley which was pretty cute.

Our Saturday Adventure
Saturday, we were invited by Chad's work colleague to the Prague Zoo which was very very large.  It was a very nice zoo and Will loved the little bike-like thing Jitka brought for  him.  He was riding around the zoo like he owned the place and  Jack just chilled in the pusher.

The zoo was nice and once we were done with a light lunch we were going to take a ferry back to the city center. Well, we missed the ferry and decided to walk a bit and then get a taxi.  Yeah, it didn't work quite as well as we thought and the directions were a bit unclear and we didn't have a map.  We walked for almost 2 hours through a park in almost the opposite direction of the hotel. It was hot, but the boys napped and we stopped at Crowne Plaza and got a car back to our hotel. Seriously, we wondered through this park and then got to some neighborhoods where there were NO PEOPLE ANYWHERE!  I have never been so happy to be back in a hotel.  When we arrived at the hotel they also had their yearly 2 hour power outage as they checked some electrical stuff.  It was crazy being in a dark hotel.  It was quite the day.

Tours
We decided to take a convertible car tour of the city. It was so nice to do on a Sunday evening. Both boys loved looking out and feeling the breeze, they also were very very good and sat still because they weren't in car seats.  We were in a 1928 Praga. The driver was great and took our picture.  He told us about all the major sites in the city and answered my questions (Are Casinos really that popular?  How old was that building again?  Can you explain the government system?).  He also talked about what Prague was like while under Communism.  It is amazing to think that it wasn't that long ago.

Praga was great!  I am so glad we were able to spend more time than the weekend and that the boys are such good travelers.

We also watched the end of the World Cup in Prague. The boys wore their Germany shirts on teh German game days.  Bummer about Germany but we were Cheering for Spain in the finals!
