Today we took a road trip to Frankfurt to the US Consulate to get Will registered as a US Citizen, his US passport, and sign up for his Social Security card. We left around 7:15am and took the 2 hour trip. The trip on the autobahn was smooth and thanks to Tom Tom we made it easily. Also thanks to my mom wanting to ask, we were able to figure out what line we should have been in because we had a 10:30am appointment.
Let me say that having a newborn gets you a red card that lets you skip to the head of all the lines and we got a security guard to show us exactly where to go. There were lots of lines waiting to just get a number to get into the security line. Once inside, we managed to get a lovely passport picture of lil Will screaming. We spent 12 EURO trying to get a picture and held up the line for the booth. A shout out to Matt Frankovis for telling us about how he has taken passport photos of infants. The background has to be white and the parent cannot be in the picture. Thankfully they let the picture with the eyes closed and mouth wide open work. Note that you shouldn't plan to take a passport picture of an infant at the exact time they wake up and need to eat! You can see Chad holding his hands down and me holding his neck.

This was the only time Will cried all day and was WONDERFUL during the entire trip. He was quiet and peaceful while we waited in the lines to get all the paperwork completed. He's a great little traveler. This experience was a memorable part of our time here and we managed to figure out something that would have been so much easier if we were at home. Did I mention he has an "international birth certificate" which is in several languages.
Points of Interest
After we got something to eat at McDonalds after we left the Consulate we
started driving back to Koln. My dad was playing with Tom Tom and wanted to stop at a "Point of Interest." We navigated to a small town of Limburg. We parked and walked around as they were preparing for an town festival for the weekend. Like most places in Europe there was a church that was a point of interest. :) We walked up a hill and looked at the beautiful church. We opted not take the tour as it was in German and our
parking meter was running out. It was a beautiful town and thanks to Tom Tom we navigated the crazy streets. We made it back to the autobahn and headed back to Koln.Did I mention how good Will was in the car? He was really good! We're ready to start travel/tourism season in Europe.
