Friday was a productive day of cleaning and preparing for our first visitors in Koln! I planted flowers outside of our flat (our landlord is looking for a new gardener and let me plant a few flowers in our walkway). I'll take a picture as they get a bit bigger. I also tried to bake cinnamon rolls but I don't think I added enough yeast because they didn't rise after I made the rolls. I'm continuing to learn, but they tasted OK. Chad and I went shopping and he bought a grill for the weekend. We should have shipped our Webber because they are expensive here! Be bought a small one that will work for our 2 years here and wasn't that expensive.

Visit from Mary & Justin!
The highlight of the weekend was a visit from friends from Marquette, Justin and Mary! They were too kind and took a 4 hour train from Hamburg to see us. They have been living in Hamburg for almost a year and unfortunately for us they are heading back to Chicago at the end of the month. They have been helpful in our transition and we enjoyed their visit so much. We met them at McDonalds at the train station after they arrived and we realized that there are 2 McDonalds (one inside the train station and one outside). :) Once we found each other it a fun weekend of catching up and also talking about being Americans in Germany. Mary and Justin have done a wonderful job making the most of their time in Germany and Europe and gave us some helpful tips. This was a picture of a man selling chocolate for to collect money for his wedding. :)
Grilling in Germany...
It may look like a brat and say bratwurst on the package, but it's breakfast sausage.
We took Mary and Justin back to our flat and then got ready to grill out and our friends Anna and Martin joined us with baby Rosa. Anna and Justin shared an office and worked together in Hamburg before Anna & Martin moved to Koln in September. It is a small world! We appreciated Mary & Justin connecting us. We grilled hamburgers, thin brats and also something that Chad and I thought were brats, but Martin informed us that they were actually a white sausage. :) We have a lot to learn from Anna and Martin about Germany and German food. We had a good evening and baby Rosa was an angel all night and even tested our US Pack-N-Play. The night was so much fun and we are so lucky to have great friends!
Brunch outside the DomGermany!Sunday reached the mid-80s and we left our flat and had brunch outside the Dom. I sat there thinking...now this is incredible, we are just relaxing with friends outside of one of the largest churches in the world on a beautiful sunny day! We Live in Germany! This will be one of our favorite mements in Koln. :) It was sad to see Mary and Justin get on the train because we had such a great time. We also realized that the next time we see them will probably be in Chicago.
