We took advantage of a 3 day weekend for May Day and took the train to Luxembourg City, Luxembourg. It was a beautiful train ride down the Mosel River and we saw lots of vineyards on the hillsides. The weekend was supposed to be just relaxing and to cross off another country that boarders Germany from the list.
View from a bridge we walked over. There is a park at the bottom
This is the palace near the city center.

Highlights...
We took a cab to our hotel which was on the North part of the city and up several hills. Once we arrived we realized that it was really close to nothing. We arrived on a holiday so the buses only came every hour. We decided to venture into the city center and on the way had some issues communicating with the driver of the bus. Chad told him we wanted to get off in the city center and when we arrived at a stop that looked like the best option the bus driver said about 5 more minutes. Well he was WRONG! We stayed on and saw the train station where we arrived and so we just got off. We were able to spend time walking to the city center. Good thing Luxembourg isn't that big and it was sunny!
Pizza Hut, Chi chis, McDonalds...Hotel!
We also ended up eating at a lot of American places because the hotel was a bit expensive. We walked about 30 minutes up and down hills on Friday night to find a Pizza Hut because that was about all that was open. Again we got to see the city. The man at the hotel kept saying it was only a 5 minute drive, but didn't quite understand we didn't have a car as much as I tried to explain it to him. He did speak English!
We also had Chi Chis in the square one day and grabbed ice cream at McDonalds in the square as well. We also tried a local recommendation and ate fish and chips in a restaurant where a festival was taking place.
Train compartments...the way to go!
It was a great train ride to and from Luxembourg and took us about 3 hours each direction. We were lucky enough to ride in a compartment so Will was walking all around and on the return we had a compartment all to ourselves so we caught up on Season 6 of 24 while Will napped.
Our trip to Luxembourg was nothing major exciting. We walked all over and saw some old buildings and sites in the city. Now we can say we've been there.
We spent May Day weekend in Luxembourg. The weather was nice and we did a lot of walking in this hilly town!
