Welcome Jack!
After the "big turn" and waiting for the baby to be "early" he came right on time. I appreciated his arrival on the due date, however, I would have appreciated him coming a bit faster. The whole process that started on Wednesday afternoon was a bit long and again Chad and I pulled an all-nighter waiting for the little guy to come early Thursday morning. A little weird to have a glass of champaign at 7am but hey we managed to drink it.
Again, the care in the hospital was very good and the staff worked with us on the language barrier. It was also easier the second time around as we knew some basic things. I also realized that I needed to be more assertive and tell the staff what I wanted rather than have them tell me what to do. I also had a few roommates in the hospital that were more "diva-like" and realized that I was actually an "easy patient." Oh the German culture.
I was eventually moved to a private room and enjoyed a great view of the city center and had my fill of CNN World. I was able to watch all of Season 5 of Alias and a few movies. Chad and Will tried to visit at least once, if not twice a day. Will was a trooper because there was little to do in a hospital room. We came on Wednesday evening and left on Monday morning.
We were so fortunate that Will was able to stay with Anna, Martin and Rosi when Chad and I went to the hospital. For sure this is his second home lately. :) Again, we are thankful for their friendship and knew that Will was in excellent hands.
Chad and Will...the bachelors
Will and Chad spent 4 nights together as bachelors. I only got one call at the hospital telling me Will was trying to peas up his nose. :) Chad only had McDonald's once and was busy in the kitchen and cleaning the flat. Will kept him busy and enjoyed having his dad all to himself for a few days. I think he also enjoyed the TV (computer) in the kitchen, eating bananas in bed, and staying up late. Will also got some new Matchbox cars and some M&Ms which means his life is perfect.
Jack and I were also greeted with a very nice homemade sign hanging on window. It was so nice to be home and we're all settling into a routine. Chad is working a little from home this week and will spend a few hours in the office, but we're all trying to figure out how life with 4 will work. We're off to a good start and it is easier the second time around.
Will and Jack...I dare Compare
So being a twin, I am not a fan of comparisons, especially with babies and little kids. I really try not to compare two kids because I know that everyone develops at a different rate and has special attributes. However, people do compare and I understand that it is a natural tendency. I know that I will mentally compare the two boys, but I also know that I will work hard to avoid phrases like "When Will was this age" or "Will did X like X." Will has been a wonderful boy and I know Jack will be just as wonderful, but in his own way.
This being said...here I go...because I have found myself looking at Jack and calling him Will. Jack looks a lot like Will but bigger cheeks and dark hair.
Will & Jack
Will has been exceptional with Jack (so far). He will point to his brother and say something that sounds like "Jack." Will also gives Jack kisses, takes him his pacifier (which who knows if he even likes), throws away Jack's diapers, drives his cars on Jack's pillow and on Jack's legs, shares his M&Ms (this is big), looks to see if he's sleeping, and generally is easy going with him being around.
The funniest moment has been Jack in his bouncer chair. Will recently loves this chair and wants to sit in it himself. He also wants to help Jack make the most of the "bounce" in the chair. Chad has reminded me that we do need to strap the Jack into the the chair because Will tries to use it to catapult Jack out. Oh we need to keep our eyes on them when they are together. :) We are lucky that Will doesn't appear to be jealous or really mind having the new little guy around.
A few pic of the new little German
Here are some of Jack in the hospital and then a bunch of both boys as we waited for the nurse to let us leave the hospital. These are the moments that I will treasure, two sleeping boys! And the best part...sleeping at the same time!
