Another Week...

Tulips & Cookies
It's No Tulip Time but I was able to buy some cheap tulips at Aldi this week.  There are tons of beautiful flowers starting to bloom and it was a nice added touch to decorate or flat while we wait for our sea shipment to arrive. It's been about 4 weeks so hopefully soon we will get our stuff!

We also are finding fun snacks here! These are Kelly's favorite little cookies now!  They just wafer cookies with frosting but very good!
Not sure how good for you because the nutritional facts are in German!

REAL or Wal-Mart?
On Thursday I ventured out to a place that was supposed to be a Wal-Mart Super Center. I just wanted to find a place to buy some things a bit cheaper than at the local stores.  Also, there was this need for me to get out and explore a bit more out of our comfortable neighborhood.  I passe
d the street that the Wal-Mart was supposed to be on and didn't see the familiar sign.  There was a sign for REAL, so I decided just to walk around and see what it was...on the inside it reminded me of Wal-Mart.  I walked the aisles finding some American products and also a clippers for Chad's hair!

We Signed another contract...But we got a Car!
After a long process we finally were able to go to the Dealership on Friday and sign the contract for a car! We don't get it until next Tuesday, but at least we have one and it didn't get sold on us.  The woman at the dealership was very kind to us and even held it while we looked into insurance. You have to have insurance before you can get a car so that meant contacting an agent here and working with State Farm in the US to prove we have good driving records! Even Chad was tired of looking at cars!

We also found out that we get to personalize our plates. They do that so you can easily remember them, a bit different than in the US.  We have K for Koln and then had to choose 2 letters and 3 or 4 numbers. Stay tuned for the picture of what we chose!

Hospital Tour
Thursday we also took a tour and registered a very nice hospital.  The maternity area was recently renovated and very nice. Again we were impressed!  We also met with the head doctor who informed us that all of the doctors and most of the midwives speak English, so we'll be in good hands. The hard part will be finding parking outside the hospital.

Fun Dinner with Anna & Martin
After getting lost in the city center (none of the streets are labeled well) we finally made it to our new friends' flat for dinner. Anna & Martin were very kind and made steak (in the oven) to make us feel more at home.  She also prepared white asparagus which was wonderful!  We've learned that in Germany meals are also a process and a form of leisure. We took almost 2 hours just to get through the salad and main course. We had a lot to talk about and really enjoyed getting to know both of them. :)  Chad enjoyed having someone to drink with and recommend good wine.  Hopefully, we'll be hanging out more with them.

Nav System
After the experience of getting lost (we weren't lost but rather couldn't find the street we wanted) we decided it would be a good idea to purchase a Nav System for our car sooner rather than later! We went to the Media Markt (like Best Buy) and bought our very own Tom Tom! Most of the employees at the store spoke English very well so this was a pretty easy process. Now, we'll have to put this gadget to use

The Pusher/Car Seat
We spent Saturday at the baby store trying to buy a stroller and car seat. Chad has chosen to be more German and calls it a pusher. This was quite the process due to the language barrier and a busy store.  But after waiting about 45 minutes (we wait a lot to find someone who understands English) Kelly found a nice woman who was able to read the list and help get us the stroller in the right color that was written down.  They took it out of the box and assembled it for us as well We originally thought we'd have to order the stroller but they had it in stock so we walked away with a fun toy for Chad to play with that evening. It is pretty cool and has some fun features. The strollers here are a bit different than in the US and many people recommended buying it here.  I think we've figured out how to operate it!

Chad got a hair cut!
On our rainy Sunday we didn't do very much but watch the Masters, work on the blog and cut Chad's hair with the new clippers! It worked!
