Where did the Weekend Go?

We were very lucky this weekend because it was sunny! We were able to take a few walks around our neighborhood and down the Rhein.  We also spent a lot of time cleaning and unpacking the flat. We'll take some pictures when we're done.

We also found a bakery up the street that we will probably be our regular bakery. We walked in and tried to speak a bit of German and point to order, but the woman recognized we spoke English and referred us to another woman.  Chad ordered a strawberry dessert and she was sweet and gave us two for the price of one because it was "so fresh!"  The bread was wonderful and dessert was also quite light and tasty.

Baking, Cooking...Learning!
This weekend we were excited to make Rigatoni with Vodka Tomato Sauce. Kelly spent about 20 minutes selecting (what I thought) was the right heavy whipping cream and thought I could make make the tomato sauce with fresh tomatoes. We thought it was all going to work, but it tasted a bit bland and lacked flavor. I think the vodka was OK though.  We'll have to try it again and we were both glad that Anna & Martin didn't join us because we would have been disappointed.
Sunday Kelly also tried to make Bacon for breakfast. Well, the first attempt is on the left of the picture a tasted worse than it looks. The bacon is very slim and doesn't really put off much grease so I added a bit of oil for the rest of it and it worked OK! Let's just say it's very different from the bacon at home and that will be on Chad's list for breakfast food when we get home in December.

I'm also including a picture of the strawberries that I have been able to master cutting! I haven't messed those up yet.  Take a look at the cute little forks we get to use for the strawberries and cakes.

More excitement came when I found this morning at the grocery store Lay's!  Chad likes to snack on a chips and we've been sampling some really interesting flavors for us like Paprika.

I've been wanting mustard for various things (brats, deviled eggs, etc) and found this jar at the store. I thought it was cute with the Smurfs! It was also a smaller jar and was pretty inexpensive compared to the other kinds. We'll see if it's any good and let you know.  But the jar is fun!

Paddington Bear
Chad has been asking for a picture of the Paddington Bear we got at Paddington Station to go up on the blog so people can see it. He's pretty excited about the bear! :)
Hope everyone had a good weekend!  We've been here over a month already and it has gone quickly. One down 23 to go...so much to do and so little time.  Now if we can just get internet and phone. :)  Can you tell we're a bit frustrated.
